Obsidian is actually a natural glass formed when hot lava meets water and cools rapidly; the snowflake patterns form when mineral inclusions cool at a different rate from the base lava. Obsidian keeps a very keen edge, and was used by prehistoric man to make tools and weapons.

Snowflake Obsidian is said to 'cut to the heart of the matter' and bring objectivity to its wearer, helping them to recognise negative life patterns. It focuses on truth, even where that truth may be painful, and helps to encourage growth in new directions. Some call it the stone of rediscovery, as it can help to remind its wearer of forgotten strengths and talents.
