Emerald

A type of beryl, closely related to Aquamarine, Emerald is a rich, green colour and is the birthstone for the month of May. While it is not a particularly soft stone, Emeralds must be worn with care, especially in rings, as they can crack easily if they receive a hard knock, due to their internal fracture pattern. Throughout history, Emerald has been associated with more different types of healing than any other stone, and it is sometimes referred to as 'The Healer’s Stone'. Most of the finest emeralds come from Colombia.
In ancient times, Romans believed that this stone could be used to tell whether their lover was faithful: a fickle heart would cause the Emerald's colour to dim when held. The colour is said to represent springtime, and the green of life and love. Emeralds are considered to be powerful stones in most metaphysical areas, not only in terms of healing and love, but they are also said to promote prosperity, truth and serenity.
